Florida Cranberry - Hibiscus sabdariffa

Florida cranberry, a species of hibiscus, is known by various names including Roselle, Jamaican Sorrel, and Jamaica (HAH-MY-CAH). It's the ingredient usually found in hibiscus teas.
The fruit. Harvest the calyces or sheaths surrounding the flower about 10 days after the flowers appear. They will stay fresh for about a week. They can be eaten raw or boiled in water to make a tea. The leftover pulp can be used to make jams and pies. Florida Cranberry is a good substitute for rhubarb.
Yield. The Florida Cranberry is a fast-growing annual or perennial herb with attractive foliage. It can grow up to 7-feet tall and can produce as much as 12 pounds of fruit per plant. It begins to fruit when the days are short (usually October or November). If there is no frost, the Florida Cranberry will continue fruiting into late February.

- Pest control: Root knot nematodes are the biggest pests. Crop rotation will minimize nematode damage.
