The Ventricosa pitcher plant is low-growing, compact, and vining. The pitchers can range in color from white to red with red variegation.
There are two distinct types of Nepenthes based on the altitude where they typically grow:
Highland- above 3,000 feet
Lowland- below 3,000 feet
All types are tropical and should be protected from temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Highland types generally prefer cooler (yet still warm) temperatures: 65 to 90 degrees during the day and 45 to 65 degrees at night. The Lowland types prefer the same warm temperatures both night and day but will usually tolerate cooler nighttime temperatures around 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The Ventricosa is more forgiving and adaptable to varied growing conditions than most other highlanders. Ideal temperatures range between 80 to 90 degrees during the day and about 55 degrees at night.
Average mature height: 4-6 feet.
Light: Bright, diffused light.
Soil: Moist, but well-drained soil, like Spaghnum moss (Try ours here), Canadian peat moss, or peat/perlite mix.
GOOD TO KNOW
Dead/shriveled pitchers? Nepenthes pitcher plants may or may not have pitchers at the time of shipping, but are mature enough that they will soon grow new ones. If you receive a pitcher plant with dead/shriveled pitchers, this will not impact the health of the plant; just clip the old pitchers wth sterile scissors to make room for new ones to grow. By purchasing this item, the purchaser understands that the item is guaranteed alive upon delivery but not necessarily to thrive.
Plant size. We ship our plants in 3-inch-deep pots when they are 2.5 to 6 inches tall so they can grow to maturity under your green thumb.
