The Iris 'Ann Chowning' produces vibrant wine-colored flowers with lemon highlights. The velvety flowers grow to about six inches long and they bloom between spring and summer. Since it was introduced in 1976, the Iris 'Ann Chowning' has won the Mary Swords DeBaillon Medal twice - in 1980 and 1986 - the only one to ever win more than once. The Mary Swords DeBaillon Medal is the highest award for an iris bestowed by the Society for Louisiana Irises.

It's named in honor of the well-known Louisiana hybridizer Frank Chowning's daughter: Martha Ann Chowning (1929-2016).

I don't think I've ever written a bad etsy review before but I feel I need to let people know what a scam this place is. Buying plants online can be hit or miss, and this place is one of the biggest misses ever. I paid over $40 for a tiny barely rooted twig and the smallest Louisiana iris I have ever seen. I have decades of experience growing plants so I can probably pull these plants through until they are large enough to plant outside, but I will never order from Wellspring Gardens again.
