Bird of Paradise is a popular, virtually problem-free perennial for container or landscape growing. The flowers bloom over an extended period and are long-lasting. The Bird of Paradise is a member of the banana family (Musaceae) and comes from South Africa. The Mandela's Gold Bird is only slightly less cold hardy than the Orange Bird of Paradise. Scientific name: Strelitizia spp.
