You may have thought growing avocados was only a reality if you lived in a tropical paradise, but we've hand-picked the most cold-hardy and desirable varieties so you can make growing avocados a reality in your home garden. Pancho's claim to fame over other avocados is that it produces larger fruit than most cold-hardy avocados. Pancho is among the most cold hardy avocado varieties, withstanding temperatures down to 18-20 degrees Fahrenheit. It's a self-fertile Type-A avocado, but planting at least one B-type (such as Fantastic or Joey) will increase your yield and will provide you with a harvest throughout a larger part of the year. Pancho produces medium-large fruit (10 to 18 ounces) with a rich flavor from August to October. This variety does best when planted in the ground rather than in a container.
