You may have thought growing avocados was only a reality if you lived in a tropical paradise, but we've hand-picked the most cold-hardy and desirable varieties so you can make growing avocados a reality in your home garden. Joey is among the most cold hardy avocado varieties, withstanding temperatures down to 15-18 degrees Fahrenheit. It's a self-fertile Type-B avocado, but planting at least one A-type (such as Lila, Pancho, or Winter Mexican) will increase your yield and will provide you with a harvest throughout a larger part of the year. Joey produces small-medium fruit (6 to 10 ounces) with an excellent, creamy flavor from August to September. What sets Joey Avocado Trees apart is that they are the earliest producers, they have excellent flavor, and they are very cold hardy, compact trees. This variety does best when planted in the ground but can also perform well in a container.
