Mission olive (the common black table olive) is a classic American variety prized for its beautiful silvery foliage and versatile fruit. Originally brought to California by Spanish missionaries, this hardy olive produces medium-sized black olives that are excellent for eating and curing. They can also be pressed into flavorful olive oil. With its graceful growth habit and drought tolerance, Mission olive makes a beautiful and productive addition to sunny landscapes. This variety is partially self-fertile but crop yield can be improved by planting another type of olive. Arbequina is one of the most compatible companions.
