Mexican Pepperleaf is from the pepper family and has leaves and fruit that smell and taste like a creamy glass of root beer. Whether you know Mexican Pepperleaf as Root Beer Leaf Plant, hoja santa, yerba santa, anisillo, Vera Cruz pepper or sacred pepper, its native name, "Hoja Santa," means holy leaf. These holy leaves are commonly used in Central and South American cuisine for a peppery root beer flavor with hints of sassafras, licorice, anise, and tarragon. This plant has a tall, upright growth habit and grows huge heart-shaped leaves.

We aim to ship your plants when they’re 3-8” tall, though we often ship them taller than that.

What determines whether I get a 3-, 6-, or even 18-inch-tall plant?

The exact size of the plant we send you is variable on the time of year and how long we've been growing it out.
