Jacaranda is breathtaking with dense clusters of lavender-blue, lightly-scented, trumpet-shaped flowers. Jacaranda mimosifolia is the single most popular type of 48 other types in the Jacaranda genus. Its popularity in the U.S. began in Southern California when Kate Sessions, the "Mother of Balboa Park" imported and popularized it. The name Jacaranda comes from the indigenous South American Tupi language, and it means "fragrant." It generally blooms in spring or summer.
