Dr. John Cho, of the University of Hawaii, bred a mix of the Colocasia illustris and Colocasia esculenta, so now we can say aloha to the Royal Hawaiian® Aloha elephant ear--a perfect blend of the striking leaf of the illustris and the clumping habit of the esculenta. The Aloha has black/dark purple leaves with green veins and stems.
