The long, arrow-shaped rhizomes of the Arrowroot plant are widely used as a gluten free thickener. The rhizomes are grated, blended with water, and then strained and dried to create a powder. In addition to bolstering the variety in your food forest, Arrowroot is also beautiful and low maintenance if you just want it as part of your landscape, too. But historically, Arrowroot is more well-known for its use as a poultice to help heal wounds from arrows. So whether you're after a unique addition to your kitchen, beautifying your garden, or the novelty of a historic plant used since at least the 1800s, Arrowroot is the plant for you.
