The 'Red Velvet' Iris produces a deep red flower with yellow signals and its foliage is sword-shaped. This particular variety won the Mary Swords DeBaillon Medal in 2007. The Mary Swords DeBaillon Medal is the highest award for an iris bestowed by the Society for Louisiana Irises.
