    Actinidia arguta.

'Issai' (Self-fertile female, Does not need a male pollinator)

This unique variety can grow in places too cold for typical kiwis, surviving temperatures as low as -25F. A vigorous and fast growing vine that needs no pollinator (male) to produce. Attractive landscape specimen with green foliage that grows well on an arbor, trellis, or fence. Deciduous.

Chill Hours: 300-400. (Some sources report 800 hours. Others suggest new evidence indicates 300-400.)

Requires strong support to hold up the plants and the abundant fruit.  Often begins bearing the year after planting. Flowers in spring and ripens in September.
Full or mostly sun. Zones 3-8. Water regularly during the first year to establish an extensive root system. General purpose fertilizer. Grows 20 – 25 feet in length. Prune in winter to control size.

Starter plants are shipped in 3" deep pots. We try to keep all of our plants between 3-8" in height with excellent root systems.
